TSC Intern Teachers Want Full Salary and Arrears After Court Ruling

Over 56,000 teachers employed as interns by the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) now may wish to have their employer pay them their full salary and arrears for the duration they have served as intern (s).

Some of the intern teachers currently on TSC payroll have individual that they  will move to court to get the commission to pay them arrears for the time they have spent delivering their services in Junior schools.

Led by spokesperson Boniface Omari speaking in Nairobi indicated that the commission should  start paying them for the neglected 15 months they had worked.

The spokespesrson person also indicated that they are following a legal action to pursue compensation for the period they served under TSC without fill salary payment.

Omari insinuated that TSC now owes intern teachers Sh26 billion,money they are now demanding to be provided to them with immediate effect.

In addition, Omari registered the desire for the government through the national assembly to compel the TSC to fully adhere to the court ruling saying that teachers having similar qualifications should receive equal salary .

All the intern teachers now want the government to fully comply with the court decision in that all teachers bearing similar qualifications should receive equal pay.

During the court ruling declared in Wednesday,it was announced that interns were teaching a full curriculum,among them subjects they did not train including sciences and mathematics contrary to their agreement of only to teach two subjects.

According to the Court, the above state puts the status of the interns in a complicated situation.

Equally, it was revealed that despite earning only an intern stipend of sh 15000 and sh 20,000  for Primary and secondary interns respectively, these stipends are subjected to full taxes and government contributions among them controversial housing levy.

These teachers also lack facilities as well as teaching experience under low level learners in terms of behavioral and psychological development which also brings an issue of misunderstanding in their daily service delivery.
