National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) has released directed all parents and students’ guardians to ensure that all school buses used by learners have undergone mandatory inspection before school reopening for term 2, 2024.
In a statement released on Friday, April 19,2024 , NTSA said that mandatory inspection of the school buses is meant to confirm their state for transporting learners as schools reopen towards the end of this month.
NTSA has asked all the parents and guardians to visit their children’s schools inorder to check whether the vehicles complied with all the requirements of the current Traffic Act and transportation.
According ot NTSA, these orders are in line with the earlier directive on the mandatory inspection of school vehicles issued by Kipchumba Murkomen, the Transport Cabinet Secretary .
As a result, the transport authority now asks all schools to comply with the orders inorder to avoid any inconveniences that may be faced by the learners and parents/guardians as the 1st May 2024 deadline .
Details for NTSA indicate that several schools are on presenting their vehicles for inspection on Thursday, April 18 inorder to assess their mechanical soundness.
Among the areas to be subjected to inspection include assessment of the functionality of the speed limiters installed on these vehicles.
Among the recommendations suggested include ensuring that transport providers must a valid comprehensive insurance cover and whether they are qualified drivers and school vehicle attendants.
All the school buses must be painted yellow with code FFD800 among other important areas before reopening of school for term 2
