Kenya Union of Post-Primary Education Teachers (KUPPET) and the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) have reached finally deliberated on promoting 30,000 among them c4 and C5 teachers stuck in the same job for more than 10 years.
The above teachers’ union had expressed serious dissatisfaction following lack of promotions for over 50,000 teachers across various job groups more especially C5 and C4 who have been stagnated for several period of time.
During a meeting which involved Teachers Service Commission held in Naivasha in April 2024, KUPPET declared a petition for the government to grant Sh1 billion to TSC inorder to effect immediate promotions of 30,000 teachers of the 50,000 that have remained under same job group for a long time.
Akelo Misori, the current KUPPET Secretary-General (SG) stated that the priority group will be current C4 and C5 teachers.
According to Misori, these teachers will get transfer to C5 and D1, respectively thus enabling those to long-serving teachers locked in Grade C3 also room to grow.
During the 2023 and 2024 promotions, KUPPET indicated that Some 7,400 C4 teachers never got promoted since they had been in the current grade for fewer than three years.
Teachers are now looking forward to see the implementation of this proposal between TSC and union that will not only enhance c4 and C5 income but also help these teachers to progress in their career.
