TSC will award 6,000 teachers with posting letters for deployment to Special Needs Education (SNE) centres in a move to address souring teacher shortage.
Teachers to be deployed include those that were initially attached to SNE before moving to the current regular schools under which career progression is almost guaranteed to them.
The above deployment decision was arrived at following Kenya Union of Special Needs Education Teachers (Kusnet) meeting with Teachers Service Commission (TSC).
The two bodies agreed that teachers trained under SNE will now be transferred back to the special needs schools that currently having high population.
Sitienei revealed that there are 300 primary schools and 38 secondary schools currently taking care of learners with special needs as well as those with disabilities.
Kusnet chair urged all TSC teachers in regular schools across the country to apply so as to get posting letters for redeployment to SNE schools.
The teachers employer equally resolved to establish an SNE section at main headquarters, that will be staffed with personnel who have knowledge in SNE matters.
The two agreed that achievement of this plan will improve learning in special school education schools since they will push for the National Assembly Education Committee for SNE to be allocated more funding.
