TSC Posting Letters For Listed 6,000 Teachers to Special Schools

TSC will award 6,000 teachers with posting letters for deployment  to Special Needs Education (SNE) centres in a move to address souring teacher shortage.

Teachers to be deployed  include those that were initially attached to SNE before moving to the current regular schools under which career progression is almost guaranteed to them.

The above deployment decision was arrived at following  Kenya Union of Special Needs Education Teachers (Kusnet) meeting with Teachers Service Commission (TSC).

The two bodies agreed that teachers trained under SNE will now be transferred back to the special needs schools that currently having high population.

According to Kusnet chairman , Mr Peter Sitienei , this plan is likely to improve standards in special needs institutions.

Sitienei revealed that  there are 300 primary schools and 38 secondary schools currently taking care of learners with special needs as well as those with disabilities.

Sitienei further indicated that several  teachers in special units in regular schools will now be exempted from teaching and be fully attached with the responsibility inorder to concentrate on learners with alternative needs.

Kusnet chair urged all TSC  teachers in regular schools across the country to apply so as to get posting  letters for redeployment to SNE schools.

The teachers employer equally resolved  to establish an SNE section at main  headquarters, that will be staffed with personnel who have  knowledge in SNE matters.

The two agreed that achievement of this plan will improve learning in special school education schools since they will push for  the National Assembly Education Committee for SNE to be allocated more funding.
