Kenya Union of Post Primary Education Teachers (Kuppet) has demanded that the Teachers Service Commission (TSC )  promote over 1,000 teachers who have stagnated under same job group for more than 10 years.

According to Akelo Misori, Kuppet Secretary General Akelo, these teachers should be promoted immediately.

Akelo noted that despite a good number of them having attended several TSC interviews for promotions from the Career Progression Guidelines (CPG), they have never been considered.

He further explained that most of them  has shown up for more than two or three promotion interviews but have been left out for years now.
Among these teachers are those who were  converted from the former job group M into C5 and others from job group L into C3

Misori said this during the Kuppet National Executive Board  full meeting that was in the company of their technical team, during a five-day retreat with TSC officials in Naivasha.

The teachers employer  TSC  had called for this consultative  meeting after Kuppet raised questions into the list of promotions for about  51,000 teachers between May 2024 to the recently released list in March 2024.

Addressing the meeting, Misori faulted the recently  released list indicating that TSC promotion list publication had more than 14 teachers who had died or retired.

Misori also pointed out that the promotion  list contained several Curriculum Support Officers that are not serving teachers .

The list also had the staff at TSC Secretariat  who are not part of the teaching staff but had unfairly benefitted from promotions which were purely for teachers according to Misori.

The union tabled before TSC a list of about 1,000 teachers that have never  earned any single promotion for more than 10 years and made demand for their promotion with immediate effect.

During this meeting, the union also demanded for the revision or alternatively abolish CPGs,that has  failed to address teachers stagnated challenges
