Listed Salary Scale/Grade to be Abolished, TSC Agrees CPG Review

Kenya Union of Post Primary Education Teachers (KUPPET) has tabled a proposal before Teacher Service Commission TSC to do away with teacher salary for post-primary teachers, grade C5 cadre as well as do CPG review.

According  to KUPPET, this move will allow teachers to move from C4 to senior management position.

KUPPET has further asked for TSC to create non-administrative positions for senior teachers at grade  D4, even without getting an advancement to school principal position.

Speaking to the press following their meeting with the TSC in Naivasha, KUPPET  said that the meeting’s  main goal was to resolve the teachers’ dissatisfactions associated with the  recent promotions .

This included ove 50, 000 teacher promotions that took place from May last to the recently March 2024 promotions lists.

Following a number of concerns, TSC  agreed with KUPPET ‘s demand to examine to have a review on Career Progression Guidelines (CPG)

According to KUPPET, the current CPG has been the challenge behind the current teacher stagnation.

The meeting resolved to for new Career Progression Guidelines that will have to entail details from the  public engagement.

It was also noted that since 2017, several teachers have never got any Promotion and a solution to this was arrived at during Naivasha summit that resolved to effect new changes from June of this year, 2024.

According to Misori, the newly released guidelines is an assurance to have an accelerated career advancement through shortening period taken for career advancement.
