TSC Important Update to All Teachers on Sick Leave Days

Since attending your teaching duties as a teacher might not be possible having illness, the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) has provided for teacher  apply for sick leave through the Commission’s online portal.

The applications of this leave helps one to be safe from facing any disciplinary actions from the commission

Important details to know about TSC sick leave:

a. As a teacher 

When making applications for this special type of leave ,this is what a teacher should consider;

The Timing

It is advisable that a teacher should apply for sick leave not later than 48 hours after attending hospital as an out-patient.

Application of the same should be done within seven days if you a teacher is admitted as an in-patient.

About application Submission

Note they this application is supposed to be submitted online through the Head of Institution.

Incase  the teacher is unable to apply in person due to serious sickness,  then the subject Head of Institution must inform the Sub County Director within 14 days period.

b.As Head of Institution

The Head of Institution  should apply for he sick leave through the Sub County Director.

Th timing for application should be within 48 hours after attending hospital as an out-patient.

The same should be made within seven days the headteacher becomes an in-patient.

 In an event  where the the Head of Institution is unable to apply in person as a result  of severe  sickness , it is the responsibility of the Sub County Director inform the County Director within 14 days duration.

What a teacher is entitled under Sick Leave 

TSC guarantees a teacher up to 6 Months sick leave, with full pay for the first 3 (three )months and also another half pay for the next 3 months.

For the teacher who become sick more than or Beyond 6 Months, the leave is given  without pay until you resume duties.

Sick leave for intern teachers / staff 

TSC guarantees sick leave for teachers on contracts not that does not exceed 1 year.

According to TSC interns are entitled to a the sick leave as follows

a. One (1) month with full pay and additional one additional month on half pay

On the other hand , intern teachers who get sick beyond pay two months, there is no pay until resuming duty.

For both permanent and intern teachers who take more than one Year sick leave, the teacher must present a Medical Board  that determines fitness to continue teaching.
