The teachers employed by the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) living in rural areas are set to be amongst top beneficiaries of the phase 2 CBA salary hike and allowances review from July 2024.
During the first phase 1 implementation in July 2023, the teachers enjoyed a basic salary hike of between 2.4 per cent to 9.5 percent as well as enhanced house allowances in the new grouping of regions.
From July 2023 salary increment, lowest earning teachers were the biggest beneficiaries with the higher percentage of the hike at 9.5% as while those on the higher end of the scale got a 2.4% salary increment.
After the salary increment,the entry level teachers at primary school level, got their salary range between sh.22,793 and sh.28, 491 per month.
The C1 teachers among them sections of primary, secondary and lecturers now get a salary increment of between sh.28,491 and sh.35,614 .
The teachers in grade C2 who are lecturers and special needs teachers get between sh.36,621 and sh sh.45,776 per month
Those teachers in Grade C3 among them lecturers currently get between sh.44,412 and sh.56,514,
Teachers in job grade C5, earn a monthly income of between sh.62,272 and sh.78,667.
In addition the D1 teachers among them , those in Senior masters position ,the headteachers, the deputy principals and senior lecturers earn between Ksh.77,840 and Ksh.95,101
Lastly, the teacher in job grade D2 who are deputy principals 2 and senior master 1 teachers earn a minimum of Ksh.91,000, and a maximum of Ksh.110,000.
The second top TSC teacher appointees who are Senior Principals under job grade D4 will get Ksh.118,000 and Ksh.143,000 highest paid.
The school Chief Principals, sitting at the top of the TSC pay pyramid under grade D5 earn between sh.131,000 and sh.159,000 as basic salaries per month.
In addition to the new basic salaries for the teaching field, the teachers are also earning improved house allowances.
Note that all the other allowances a part from the house allowances remained unchanged .
In the TSC phase 2 salary increment hike that is expected in July 2024 ,among those who will be smiling all the way to the bank are teachers offering their services in schools under rural areas .
