The Teachers Service Commission (TSC), C2 teachers earn different basic salary depending on their qualifications and experience in the service.
A part from the basic salary, these teachers have varying benefits depending based on some circumstances.
According to the teachers employer (TSC) job grade C2 is an entry-level for registered teachers and having a qualification of a bachelor’s degree in education .
These are in most cases university graduates with a degree in education employed who have secured employment in secondary schools through the Teachers Service Commission as first-time teachers.
TSC has categorized Grade C2 teachers into seven payment levels and each one of them has a different basic salary scale.
It is important to note that any trained teacher holding a diploma can be promoted to secondary grade C2 teacher upon serving for a period of three years as grade C1 teacher under TSC .
However, for any trained university degree holder teacher ,job grade C2 teacher is their starting point as a secondary school teacher directly without any years of service provision .
Note that after employment , for a grade C2 teacher holding a diploma to be able to grade C3 , the teacher must go through a promotional interview.
For a grade C2 teacher who is a university degree holder, the promotion is automatic immediately after three years of service.

The salary earned by the teachers is determined by Teachers Service Commission (TSC) in which group C2 teachers had a substantial salary increment .
This was effected after the implementation of the collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA).

Note that these teachers are also entitled to other allowances which include;
- Monthly Hardship allowance of sh 10,900.
- Monthly Commuter allowance of sh 5,000.
- Teacher Annual leave allowance of sh 6,000.
- For the disabled (Disability guide allowance) of sh 20,000.
These teachers further, depending on their place of work are paid different allowances which is issued as follows;
- For those teachers based in Nairobi earn sh 16,500.
- For those teachers in Mombasa,in Kisumu, inNakuru, Nyeri, inEldoret, Thika, Kisii, Malindi and also Kitale receive sh 12,800.
- With those teachers in other former municipalities get sh 9,600.
- Also those in other areas not covered above get sh 7,500.
