Curriculum Support Officer (CSO) Teachers Service Commission (TSC) appointed agents who are paid by the commission their monthly salary and allowances, just like other teachers employed on permanent and pensionable terms.
According to the commission, the CSOs are charged with the responsibility of assessing teachers’ needs, the training of teachers , provision of professional guidance as well as assessment of learning outcomes.
These officers also ensure that teachers comply with the set teaching standards set by the committee as well as advising them on career progression and professional development.
They equally do monitoring of the conduct and performance of teachers and also collection and maintenance of teacher management data.
The basic salary for CSO I falls under Grade D1, TSCALE 11 job cadre.

Requirements for appointment to CSO position.
Inorder for one to be Appointed to this position,one must ;
- Hav served as a teacher for a cumulative period of not less than six years
- Have persued a Bachelor’s degree in Education from a recognized institution OR alternatively have a Bachelor’s degree and an full Post Graduate Diploma in Education from a recognized learning Institutions.

- Have a certificate in computer applications or programs.
- Have demonstration of merit and ability as reflected in work performance and results
- Have met the requirements of chapter 6 of the Constitution.
As provided by the Career Progression Guidelines, there are four (4) grades of Curriculum Support Officers, designated and graded .

That is the right move by the able SRC giving logic reasons which was not being seen by those advocating for retirement reducyion to 55 years. Former president Kibaki was a strong economist that he adopted the idea of retirement extension to 60 and 65 respectively for experienced labour force in both teachers and civil servants to utilize the available and strong energetic labour in the field hence cutting down the cost of employing new and inexperienced employees .
