The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) has asked teachers to prepare the resumption of the Teacher Professional Development (TPD) training programme that will be offered in various approved centres by the commission.
Unlike in the past , this year’s TPD programme has gained support from the government which aims at ensuring that there is Quality in teaching and learning experiences in all schools.
To ensure smooth running of this program , TSC made an invitation on whose deadline was 14th February 2024 , asking all education institutions wishing to provide training to teachers to submit their application to be considered for hosting.
The training is expected to kick off from December 2024 , during school holiday when schools will be closed .
Even with this announced, it is not yet clear whether teachers will continue make own subscription to to so called controversial programme or it is the government carry the fees burden.
The president had promised that government should support the capacity building trainings among them teacher Continuous Professional Development that should be undertaken by trainers on free cost.
TSC introduced TPD in September 2021 which is exactly two years ago amid protests from teachers upon launching the first launched the programme.
Riara University and the Kenya Education Management Institute were selected to offer the professional training to teachers.
Mt Kenya University and Kenyatta University were also among the four institutions offering this programme.
Those Teachers who enrolled for TPD program were required to pay sh 6,000 yearly for six modules that takes a period of years for each complete.
During the last training, those teachers who attended TPD sessions engaged in it during evening and night classes and later they were served with certificate after finishing 5 areas of the introductory module.
