TSC Lists 7 NSSF Funds Benefits A Teacher Enjoys in/out of Service

National Social Security Fund (NSSF) is an official body established under the National Social Security Fund Act No. 45 of 2013 and it provides various benefits to TSC teacher (s) and Kenyan workers.

NSSF provides plays a key role in providing social security benefits to its members as well as ensuring that the fund remains sustainable for generations to come.

According to Teachers Service Commission (TSC), some of the benefits that teachers gain from this include;

1.Age benefits

All the members who make contributions to NSSF are eligible for this benefit upon attaining the age of 55 years and have retired from regular employment.

2.Withdrawal benefits

The contributors who are members and  who have attained the age of 50 years and have retired from formal employment are paid these benefits.

3.Survivors’ benefits

It is a benefit payable to members who have been rendered invalid as a result of developing physical or mental illness, it also helps them since they are rendered not able to earn a reasonable livelihood.

4.Invalidity benefits

These are the benefits paid to a member who is certified once he or she becomes incapable of working due to physical or mental disability permanently.

5. Emigration grants benefits

These are the benefit paid to a member without any reference to age, who is emigrating from Kenya to any other country and without the intention of returning to Kenya .

6.The Funeral Grant

These are the benefits paid to support the bereaved family of a deceased member.

The benefits are paid to a nominated family representative of the deceased member provided that the member had made at least 3 months contributions to the NSSF.

These benefits are payable within three months after the death of the member.

Note that fir the teachers who  served under temporary terms of service, they should visit NSSF offices in their sub-counties so as they can obtain their schedule showing the amount and period of contribution.

Just incase they realize that their  amount is not reflected, they should  forward the statement  to the Commission for updating.

According TSC , the Contributors are paid the NSSF benefits to teacher (s) in accordance to NSSF Act Cap 258.
