The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) has provided minimum registration requirements starting 2024 after successful amendment of the TSC Act, meant for those willing to newly join the teaching profession.
Here is the clear guidelines of the requirements for TSC registration at each level .
1. Registration Requirements for Diploma in Early Childhood Teacher Education (DECTE) Trainees
Under this level one ;
- Must have a Diploma certificate in Early Childhood Teacher Education (DECTE)
- Have a minimum of C(Plain) at KCSE or its equivalent under the Senior School level.
- With those trainees with disabilities the minimum entry grade is C- (Minus) and above at KCSE level
2.Registration Requirements for Diploma in Primary Teacher Education (DPTE) level.
Under this area one is required:
- To have successfully completed aDiploma certificate in Primary Teacher Education (DPTE)
- Have scored a minimum of C (Plain) in KCSE or an equivalent at Senior School level, with D plain in Mathematics and minimum of C- in English subject.
- For those living with disabilities, minimum entry of grade C- (Minus) at KCSE is required.
- To have successfully completed Diploma certificate in Secondary Teacher Education (DSTE)
- Have scored a minimum of C (Plain) in KCSE or an equivalent at Senior School level
- Have Scored minimum of C+ (Plus) in two teaching subjects offered at secondary school curriculum.
iv. - Have scored minimum of C (Plain) in both English, Kiswahili/Kenya sign language and Mathematics subject.
On the other hand candidates with disabilities , TSC requires listed minimum entry grade for registration ;
- At least a C (Plain) at KCSE or an equivalent,
- Minimum of C(plain) in two teaching subjects
- Minimum of C- (Minus) in the following in English, Kiswahili or Kenya sign language and also Mathematics subject.
4.Registration requirements for Diploma in Technical Teacher Education (DTTE) level for TSC 2024 .
An individual must have;
- A minimum of Diploma certificate in Technical Teacher Education (DTTE) training.
- a minimum of C (Plain) at KCSE or equivalent at Senior School curriculum
- Minimum of C+ in related two STEM technical teaching subjects.

- Alternatively one with Diploma in a General Technical subject that is offered at junior and senior school level qualifies.
5.Registration requirements Bachelor of Education (B.Ed.) (Science)/ Bachelor of Science with Education (BSE level.
Here ,TSC recommends that one ;
- Must have a minimum Bachelor of Education Degree (B.Ed.) (Science) or Bachelor of Science with Education (BSE) Degree.
- Have scored minimum of C+ (Plus) and above at KCSE or have an equivalent at senior school level,
- Have minimum of C+ (Plus) in two teaching subjects.
- Have minimum of C (Plain) in English and C (Plain) in Mathematics subject.
