TSC Categories of Learners with Special Needs Taught by Teachers

The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) deploys teachers  to teach various categories special needs learners, who are  learners that require additional support and accommodations.

The special attention given by these teachers help these learners to get their full potential.

Here are categories of learners with special needs and how they can be effectively be supported by teachers.

Intellectual Disabilities level.

These are learners  that may have difficulties with reasoning, problem-solving as well as learning.

These learners have challenges in areas such as communication, social skills as well as self-care.

Learning Disabilities level 

These are learners that refer to a range of disorders which affect the ability to acquire, to organize as well use information effectively.

A good number of these learners struggle with reading, writing, math,and also other academic skills.

specialized instruction, special accommodations and also assistive technologies help them overcome various  challenges.

Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) Level 

 These learners have difficulty in focusing, following instructions as well as staying organized.

Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) level 

Are learners that may have difficulty in understanding social cues, challenges in expressing emotions as well as forming relationships.

Emotional and Behavioral Disorders level 

 Are learners  with disorders such as anxiety disorders,deep depression, conduct disorder as well as oppositional defiant disorder.

  1. Sensory Impairments level 

Are learners with  difficulties in hearing or vision that affect a learner’s ability to perceive the world around them.

These learners use amplification devices for hearing loss or braille materials for vision impairment.

  1. Physical Disabilities level 

Are learners with conditions that affect a learner’s mobility or physical functioning.

The disabilities of these learners may have resulted from congenital conditions, injuries as well as illnesses.

  1. Speech and Language Disorders level 

Are learners with various speech and language disorders  which may affect a learner’s ability to communicate effectively.

Some of the key difficulties with speech sound production (articulation) include language comprehension as well as expression.

It is important for those with learners with special needs to know that those learners require additional support and accommodations to help them succeed academically and socially.

The need to understanding the different categories of learners with special needs helps in implementing appropriate interventions thus giving teachers opportunity to design learning environments where all learners can  fit
