The government through President William Ruto has issued a promise to recruit 20,000 new health workers and recruitment of an additional 116,000 teachers by 2027 before his tenure.
According to Ruto, his administration plans to enhance the both education and medical staffing levels in the next four years to achieve Kenya’s vision 2030,Ruto said this at State House on 21st March,2024.
The president said this while launching Kenya’s Fourth Medium Term Plan that runs until 2027.
He indicated that quality and affordable healthcare remains in his government is a priority and is targeting to expand the Social Health Insurance Scheme to 10.8 million households before 2027.
He promised on ensuring digitisation of health services and improving health infrastructure during the four years under his leadership.
Ruto further said that a total of 20,000 health workers will be recruited to support the health commodities supply chain under his leadership.
The promise on recruitment of more teachers comes at a time when the state is experiencing high shortage of teachers.
For instance,following the introduction of junior secondary schools , the teacher learners ratios is currently wanting since most schools are operating on 1 or 2 intern teachers that were posted by TSC.
Actualisation of the promise will opportunities help many teachers who have graduated from various institutions to get job opportunities.
During the release of the budget estimates for 2024/2025 academic year, the government promised to recruit more than 20,000 intern teachers to address that teacher shortage.
TSC is also expected to spend part of the allocation to confirm current intern teachers who are finishing their second contract year as directed by the government.
