Teachings and learning activities at Wasio Secondary Schools was brought to a standstill on Tuesday, March 19, following demonstrations that were staged by students.
According to the learners , they were protesting against poor meals provided by the school management .
The learners walked five kilometres from their school up to the office of the Sub-County Director of Education where they filed their unsatisfactory remarks.
Expressing their dissatisfactions , Wasio students accused the school principal of failing to listen to their demands, insisting that they were made to feed on kales on daily basis.
The students demanded for the immediate resignation of the school principal saying that the head is inconsiderate of their challenges.
Addressing the media on the same matter, Suna East Sub-County Education Director , promised to to launch thorough investigations on the same.
The education director promised to take action upon establishment of the validity of the claims that led to demonstrations of students.
He said that they are still investigating to get a report which can inform further action and upon getting all the information, thy will take appropriate action to address all the issues.
The education director further mentioned that students also lamented the poor state of learning in the school.
He further mentioned that students claimed they were not allowed to conduct practicals, something that is hindering their learning in the school.

The incident happens at a time when schools are lamenting to the government to disburse funds following the current economic standards that have risen.
Several heads through their teachers’ unions have indicated that they are unable to meet the mandatory school expenses, something that made the unions to suggest that such situation may lead to earlier schools closure.
