The Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS) has announced to start the recruitment of 1,500 officers for cadets -assistant warden 1 plus forest rangers.
On Tuesday, March 19, KWS made a notice on the new recruitment exercise that is expected to take place in various parts of the country .
The exercise will be conducted from Monday, April 15, to Friday 19, 2024.
In the notice KWS announced that it operates in remote environments and seeks to recruit a total of young and dynamic individuals as follows;
- (Assistant Warden I) Cadets – 150 slots
- Rangers – 1,350 slots.
The service indicated the need to have the recruits who can endure the conditions for training and deployment to various conservation areas.
The recruits will be ensuring in wildlife protection and address challenges currently being experienced in the country in a phased approach.
Note that this exercise will be open for all Kenyans and it will be free of charge.
Requirements for Cadets recruitment
Those applying for this position must be Kenyan citizens of 28 years of age and below.
They are also expected to be in good health and have no criminal record at all.
The specific academic qualifications needed include a Bachelor’s degree minimum of second class honours lower division from recognized institutions in the following areas;
- Wildlife Management
- Natural Resources Management
- Environmental Science
- Range Management
- Veterinary Medicine
- Criminology & Security Management
- Tourism Management
- Education
- Sociology
- Community Development
The candidates who will be shortlisted will be required to be taken through a mandatory paramilitary training for nine months before they get deployment to various stations.
Recruitment Requirements for Rangers.
The interested applicants for rangers must be Kenyan citizens and on possession of Kenya National Identity Card or passport.
Age of candidate applicants must be from 18 and 26 years bracket.
Physical and medical fitness is a requirement and should have no criminal record.
The minimum specific Academic qualifications is a D (plain) in Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education.
Those to be hired as ranger must come from the the county of recruitment, which his opposite with KWS cadets.
Those who will be successful will be required to undergo mandatory paramilitary training for a period of six months and later get deployment.

Individuals who have gone through National Youth Service (NYS) and meet the above requirements are encouraged to submit applications.

Applicants for the positions of cadets and rangers will obtain the prescribed application form free of charge from any of the nearest KWS National Park/ Station .
