The Senate has now put pressure on government to come out clearly and issue a clarification on the fate of the current situation of P1 and ECDE teachers certificates.

The Senate has asked the government through the ministry of education to declare a way forward for  teachers holding Primary Teachers Education Certificate (P1) as well as those with Early Childhood Development Education (ECDE) Certificates on their current qualifications and it’s consequences on their future jobs.

This is because there has been a lot of tension following the recent Ministry of Education’s guidelines mandating a minimum qualification of a diploma for both ECDE and primary education teachers in all schools.

According to the Embu senator , honourable Munyi Mundigi, the  Standing Committee on Education, there is need for the government to provide guidance on the status and future of the  teachers affected by the above declaration.

Munyi has now  asked for information on the number of teachers currently serving under the county governments with ECDE certificates as well as those under TSC with P1 Certificates.

The member of the Senate has directed for a clear communication from the ministry on clarification on the timelines for the proposed upgrading program.

He has indicated that such crucial information will enable the  under qualified teachers to obtain the necessary diploma qualifications  as per to the MoE expected specifications.

The Senate is also seeking clear information on the fate of the Blended Upgrading Programme, which the Ministry had outlined in a circular that was  supposed take effect immediately after normalisation of the school calendar.

Munyi has further for an additional clarification from the government outlining  clearly key interventions to assist TSC teachers who have not had the opportunity to upgrade their qualifications to a diploma level.

Several teachers more especially those in service and those yet to be employed with the above certificates have been in dilemma since the announcement from the ministry hence need for clarity as per to the Senate submissions.
