Cumulative Housing Levy,Teachers from B5 -D5 Scales for Refund

The Teachers employed under Teachers Service Commission (TSC) are to be paid the housing Levy deductions refund illegally deducted from their payslip from January 2024.

The court  ruled out on January 26th 2024 that such deductions in which TSC deducts from their payslip 1.5% of their salaries directing towards the housing fund to stop and teachers get a refund.

TSC started deducting teachers the housing Levy from  1st July 2023 after  President William Ruto had the proposed bill into law, which later the Court termed as controversial Finance Bill 2023.

This bill which was passed by the National Assembly made the contribution towards the same mandatory for all Kenyan workers.

Last month, several teachers had hope that they would receive their January housing Levy deductions refund after TSC boss, Dr.Nsncy Macharia regretted the January deductions say the court ruling had come after payroll had been processed.

Unfortunately, TSC repeated the same deductions in the month of February,2024, leaving many teachers shocked.

The teachers unions, Kenya National Union of Teachers( KNUT) and the Kenya Post Primary Education Teachers (KUPPET) have risen onto occasion demanding TSC to give an explanation for repeating the same mistake on illegal deductions.

The unions have given TSC days to come out clear on the same matter.

Incase the refund is realized at the end, then teachers will see 1.5 per cent of their basic salary returned in March ,2024 pay for two months at the rates given below per month.
