The Teachers Service Commission TSC updates today on recruitment of 6,000 Teachers and 36,000 to benefit from waited promotions for those who attended interviews.
In what seems to be a significant development in the teaching profession, Teachers Service Commission (TSC) has announced plans to recruit 6,000 more teachers and at the same time effect promotions for36,000 existing teachers.
It is such a good move for many teachers more especially those who have long been stuck in the same job groups.
What to note Points:
- That more than one hundred and fifty teachers were interviewed for the vacancies, a good number of whom have been in the same job groups for years.
- That teachers applications for promotion were invited in August last year, followed with interviews that were conducted in December 2023 and January this year.
- That all promoted teachers will receive higher pay.
The TSC CEO, Dr.Nancy Macharia indicated that this week, there will be thousands of teachers who attended promotion interviews expected to know their outcomes.
TSC interviews were held for positions in both elementary, secondary level and teacher training colleges.
Macharia further added that promoted teachers should start receiving their promotion letters this week as this will also be associated some benefits.
The commission highlighted that it had been given millions of shillings to teachers who had resigned,as revealed during an appearance before Parliament to address queries from the Auditor-General.
TSC Boss , Macharia also announced plans to recruit 20,000 teachers in this upcoming fiscal year.
Macharia did mention that 46,000 teachers who are currently serving under contract will expect to be absorbed into permanent and pensionable conditions of service after two years.

The teachers unions led by Collins Oyuu of the Kenya National Union of Teachers (Knut) and Akello Misori of the Kenya Union of Post Primary Education Teachers (Kuppet) , did welcome the announcement on recruitment of interns but emphasized that deserving teachers should receive promotions gradually.
Latest updates by TSC to effect recruitment and promotions of teachers is a positive step towards addressing long-standing issues in the profession.
Some them include stagnation of teachers who are now being recognized and rewarded for their contributions as well.
