Per diem allowances rates are daily allowances that are paid to employees to cater for expenses incurred when travelling for work assigned.
This allowance is given to cater for one’s lodging hired, meals taken among other incidental expenses.
Salaries and Remuneration Committee (SRC) sets the salaries and allowances for various job groups.with the civil servants, their amount is standard and cannot be altered unless SRC effects change.
Cluster 1 Per Diem Allowances
The allowances are given when civil servants travel for work-related reasons to the cities in Kenya.
Those who travel to Kisumu, Nairobi,Mombasa, and Nakuru are paid as follows;
- For Job groups A to E –Ksh. 4,200
- For Job groups F to J- Ksh. 6,300
- For Job groups K to N or State Officer Grade D4 –Ksh. 11,200
- For Job groups P to R or State Officer Grades E2, the E1, and D5 – Ksh. 14,000
- For Job groups S to T or State Officer under Grades E3 and E4 –Ksh. 16,800
- For Job groups U to V or State Officer under Grades F1, F2, and E5- Ksh. 18,200
- For State Officer Grade F4- Ksh. 22,000
Cluster 2 Per Diem Rates
This cluster per diem allowances are issued to civil servants when they visit county headquarters like Malindi, and Naivasha for work-related reasons.
- For Job groups A to E –Ksh. 3,500
- For Job groups F to J- Ksh. 4,900
- For Job groups K to N/ State Officer under Grade D4 –Ksh. 8,400
- For Job groups P to R or State Officer under Grades E2, the E1, and D5- Ksh. 10,500
- For Job groups S to T or State Officer under Grades E3 and E4- Ksh. 12,600
- For Job groups U to V or State Officer under Grades F1, the F2, and E5-Ksh. 14,600
- For State Officer Grade F4 –Ksh. 18,000

Cluster 3 Per Diem Rates
Under this cluster , per diem allowances are issued when civil servants visit all other towns except those listed in Cluster 1 and 2 above.
The allowances rates are paid as follows
- For Job groups A to E –Ksh. 3,000
- For Job groups F to J-Ksh. 4,200
- For Job groups K to N or State Officer under Grade D4-Ksh. 7,000
- For Job groups P to R or State Officer under Grades E2, E1, and D5-Ksh. 8,400
- For Job groups S to T or State Officer under Grades E3 and E4-Ksh. 10,500
- For Job groups U to V or State Officer under Grades F1, F2, and E5 –Ksh. 12,500
- For State Officer under Grade F4 –Ksh. 14,000
