The government through the Ministry of Education MoE has started a new review on categorization of all public senior secondary schools to provide guidelines for selection and placement of learners into career pathways.
This is as captured under the Ministry of Education draft Sessional Paper of 2024 that is to be subjected to public participation.
The ministry seeks to review students’ operational costs inorder to begin establishing and provide minimum essential packages in schools .
All this is with a core aim of ensuring adequate delivery of Competency Based Curriculum (CBC) as well as Promotion of equitable access to schooling and learning for students.
The Sessional Paper is drawn from the Presidential Working Party on Education Reforms (PWPER) and keenly projects towards providing a policy framework.
The framework will be used in the transforming education, ensure proper training as well as enhancement of research for sustainable development.
According to the Ministry of Education, Kenya has continually undertaken education reforms which are meant to align the education system with global trends,the regional goals as well as national priorities and values.
Note that the Presidential Working Party on Education Reform that was established in September 2022 made some important recommendations aimed at transforming the sector of education .
Currently, the education sector in Kenya is established at three levels which include;
- Basic Education
- TVET Education
- University Education
As a way of strengthening curriculum implementation,there are plans by the government are underway to strengthen provision of career guidance, ensure counseling as well as do mentorship programmes whose baseline will start from senior schools Categorization .
The above alignment are to be done in all levels of education and training as well as incorporate technology in provision of quality education.

CBC is a very expensive education system that will be very difficult to achieve because most of schools where it is being implemented there is no adequate learning structures as well as teaching resources.
The government could have just reinstated subject which were initially scrapped from 8.4.4 system without necessarily abounding it and could have worked very well.
