TSC On Official Working Hours For Teachers 2024

The Ministry of Education through the Teachers Service Commission TSC has outlined the official working hours for teachers both in primary and secondary school .

TSC recognizes the crucial role in shaping the future of the nation by imparting knowledge and skills to students both from all levels of education.

TSC has set the official working hours to ensure that there is effective teaching and learning for purposes of uniform in all schools.

TSC Official Working Hours for Day schools.

As per to the Basic Education Act, all public and private day  schools should operate between 8 am to 3.30 pm and on school days only .

It is then expected that students to take part in extracurricular activities from 3.30 pm to 4.45 pm.

According to the act, there is no day any  institution of basic learning and training shall require learners to report to school earlier than 7.15 am

According to the Education Cabinet Secretary ,Ezekiel Machogu, early morning and evening classes preps is banned.

A warning has been issued to some teachers who force learners to attend organized extra classes late in the evening and early in the morning lessons before 8 am.

The syllabus for the learning areas should be covered appropriately between the stipulated time.

According to the ministry, it is not important subject pupils to unnecessary mental torture by extending teaching hours.

Teaching hours in boarding schools

Different schedules for boarding schools  both public and private have been issued guiding onofficial working hours for teachers both in primary and secondary school .

According to the ministry,all learners should begin classes from 8 am to 3.30 pm.

As from 3.30 pm to 4.45 pm , learners will be required to attend  extra activities.

Then from 5 pm to 7.30 pm , learners will spend this time on self-directed activities.

Then from 7.30 pm to 9.30 pm learners will conduct night preps.

Learners are expected to break 9.30 pm to 6 a.m , time for sleeping.

Students should later engage in supervised routine activities from 6 a.m to 8 a.m.

Warning is issued on the trends where school buses are seen picking up children as early as 5 a.m with the intension of taking them to school for early morning classes.
