The Kenya National Examination Council (KNEC) has offered students who had their national exams cancelled a chance to appeal for the same.
According to the examinations council, an appeal is provided under Kenya National Examinations Council (Amendment) Bill for 2024.
The Bill was prepared by the Presidential Working Party on Education Reforms.
As per to the provisions of this Bill, Students who are aggrieved will be allowed to appeal the cancellation of their examinations 30 days after results are published.
Under the new appeal , going forward, the council will accept requests from aggrieved candidates which must be made in writing. This is unlike the old system which required students to use the judicial system to seek redress.
The students whose exams were cancelled by KNEC will be required to indicate why they are seeking a review .
The Bill indicates that immediately the Council receives an application,it shall consider the application and respond, also in writing, to the applicant within thirty days.
There are two options to this.Either students will be accorded the courtesy of being told the reason why their request for review was rejected by the Council.
For those whose request for review is successful, the will receive communication of the decision in writing.

The Bill indicates that in an event where the Council is satisfied that the candidate has not been involved in any examination irregularities, examinations Council shall release the results to the candidate.
The above bill proposed by the presidential education reforms committee is being taken through public participation before it is presented in the national assembly for debate.
