Teachers Service Commission (TSC) has tabled a proposal seeking revision of the minimum entry level for those interested to joining teaching profession as P1 teachers.
In the latest proposal, the commission to scrap the P1 Certificate Level of education for trainees.
The teachers employer is seeking to have a Diploma Certificate to be the lowest level for all teachers including those training to teach at ECDE classes.
As provided in the proposal, all teacher recruits must have scored a minimum grade of C and a D plain in Mathematics.
In addition to this, teachers must score a minimum grade of C- in English subject.
Addressing the p1 teachers already in the training Macharia clarified that the commission is currently under engagement with the Ministry of Education to determine the course of action.
The TSC Boss addressed this noting that there are currently teachers who in colleges without necessary mandatory qualifications and such a consultation with will have a solution.
This means that the affected teachers should relax until a clear direction is given from both TSC and the ministry.

Defending the proposal, TSC announced that the above step is aimed at improving performance of candidates in the national exams.
The commission cited on an analysis done which shows that in KCSE results, and KCPE , the worst subject performance are Mathematics and Languages.
