Teachers Service Commission (TSC) has announced plans on recruitment of 6,000 more teachers during the current financial year.
The commission is expected to release the advertisement for the same any time following an additional of the allocation of Sh1 billion for the promotion of teachers.
TSC has released this good news days after initiating a new phase in the deployment of Junior Secondary School (JSS) teachers to address the current shortage.
TSC has so far declared a total of 6, 000 slots urging interested P1 teachers with relevant degrees to submit deployment requests by March 18, 2024.
In the advert, TSC insists that it is only those teachers under permanent and pensionable terms in public schools who meet the necessary qualifications should who should apply for deployment
At the same time, Dr. Nancy Macharia has addressed the deduction of the controversial Housing Levy from teachers’ salaries for January, 2024.
Dr.Macharia has clarified this during a press briefing in Nairobi saying that the commission implemented the deduction since the court ruling suspending came after the payroll had been prepared and funds disbursed.
In another incident, TSC boss Dr. Macharia was tasked to explain how the commission had disbursed millions of shillings to teachers who had already left the service , money that could be used in recruitment for more teachers .
Responding to this, Macharia the commission has started addressing the issue saying that the commission has implemented a digital entry and exit system for head teachers to manage such situations in real time.
