TSC recruited 46,000 intern teachers  last after extending their contract in January  this year for an additional year with the commission citing on  lack of budgetary allocation.

During the first recruitment, a total of 21,500 interns teachers were deployed to JSS.

Even as these teachers continue to trade their services in various school, they have expressed discomfort with the extension arrangement following their qualifications .
The teachers are dissatisfied with being subjected to receiving low stipends instead of salaries.

Expressing the commission’s commitment to addressing the teachers concerns , Dr. Nancy Macharia has assured these teachers that they would be accorded first priority in filling vacancies at schools.

According  to Macharia, these teachers would be  automatically absorbed without the need for advertising the positions.

The latest announcement from the commission aims to provide a clear pathway for the intern teachers thus  ensuring their job continuity and a transition towards permanent and pensionable employment by 2025.

TSC decided the extension of the teacher contracts allowing for the commission to take necessary administrative steps as well as aligning with it’s  budgetary constraints.

Under the current internship program, the secondary school degree holder teachers on contract receive Sh20,000 per month. Those with diploma in primary school  receive Sh15,000.
