The Kenya National Union of Primary Teacher ( KNUT) has demanded that the Teachers Service commission (TSC) should pay responsibility allowances for teachers who have served under acting capacity.
According to KNUT boss, it is wrong for teachers to be serving under acting capacity for more than six months without being paid acting allowances .
As a result, the Teachers service commission ,as per to the Knut Secretary general Collins Oyuu,TSC must pay teachers acting allowances.
KNUT has condemned the current situation where the commission re-assigns teachers some duties in schools to act as heads or deputies but fail to compensate them for their time in service delivery.
Emphasizing on need for reviews, Oyuu used an example of a teacher assigned duties to act as a head teacher for three years , where he was later b absorbed without getting any allowances for the period he served
According to KNUT sec. general Oyuu such an act is a total violation of the Labour laws of kenya.
Oyuu has further asked for promotion of teachers based on their qualification with or without the TSC having money to pay them as long as they qualify and TSC to pay them.
He further said that TSC is not expected to stop promotions on the basis of lack money, but promote teachers and pay them when they get the money.

On the other hand TSC is currently preparing to implement automatic teacher promotions for all qualified teachers so as to solve the delays which have for years stagnated teachers in one job group.
As a result TSC is also slowly effecting automatically promoted from their current employment categories to the next levels.
