The Teachers Service commission (TSC ) recognizes the Chief Principal position at Grade D5 on T-Scale 15, as top heads of educational institutions, with the highest basic salary and allowances.
The TSC 2021-2025 CBA signed in 2023 brought significant changes to the compensation structure for these heads of institutions.

Note:
- Monthly basic Salary structure for Chief Principals under Grade D5 now starts at Ksh.131,380
- While the teachers progress in their roles, salary points increases in steps and each step reflects a higher level of responsibility and experience.
A part from the basic salary these teachers also earn;
1. monthly Hardship Allowance
This is the money paid for compensation of teachers especially those working in areas characterized by adverse conditions.
Chief Principals at Grade D5 hold significant responsibilities and as a result , they receive a hardship allowance of 38,100 KES per month.
2.Monthly Commuter Allowance
It is the money meant to ease the financial burden of daily travel to and from work for these teachers.
The chief Principal at Grade D5 teachers receive a commuter allowance of Ksh 16,000 per month.
It is an allowance paid in recognition of the commitment of teachers,that may have to travel significant distances to and from their education institutions.
3.Annual Leave Allowance
It is money paid to teachers once throughout the academic year.

The TSC chief Principal at Grade D5 receives an annual leave allowance salary of 10,000 Kenyan Shillings.
The money is meant to encourage teachers to take the well-deserved breaks.
Teachers are expected to spend the money to recharge and return to their students with renewed energy .
