The Teachers Service Commission TSC has issued announcement on discontinued employment of teachers with a primary school certificate and set a new employment requirement of a Diploma in Primary Education.
According to the commission, all the teachers who had been employed with a certificate are encouraged to further their studies by 2024, since the commission will permanently stop employing P1 teachers.
TSC has indicated that it will no longer employ P1 teachers for the CBC revealing plans to get rid of the PTE certificate as the major/ basic requirement to become a teacher .
P1 certificates will now be replaced by a diploma that following the newly implemented competency-based curriculum (CBC).
TSC has set the minimum requirements for all teachers handling learners in grades 1 through 6. Qualification to work with these children, one needs a Diploma in Primary Teacher Education (DPTE).
Currently,a diploma in education is the minimum qualification for anyone who wants to teach at any level.
The above changes are meant to improve the quality of schooling in the country.
TSC also allows for post-training upgrade certificates if one has finished ECDE, PTE, DTE, BED, DIP ED, and SNE training programmes properly after which they will be certified for teaching children in grades 1 to 3 and also from 4 to 6.
The commission has so far captured in its databank the number of P1 teachers signed up for further education at Teacher Training Colleges (TTCs) all over the country.
With the new directives from the commission , hope for many p1 teachers have crushed the hopes .They had thought that they would get hired by TSC without having to upgrade their Primary Teacher Education (PTE) certifications.
Some of this teachers you want to discontinue sold their parents pieces of land to pay their school fees for P1. course they took and majority of such guys are still tarmaking,of you are humane enough and want the best for this generation, absorb all these P1 and force them to go back to school and upgrade, whatever measures you will take after this humane act the every individual to carry own cross, treat these people’s children as your own and have mercy on them.
We have teachers who graduated 2015 and below up to 2010.please first employ them.Have mercy on them please.
How will it be treated for teachers who completed the course the same year, paid the same amount of school fees, who have now worked for a number of years, and others who have not served at anytime, also who will not be employed.some have earned for many years others few years, and others none.do we have any just courts in Kenya?Itetee wanyonge.
The upgrades who did their exams on July last year have not received their results up to now. How serious is this P1/ECDE upgrading program
Surely, some of these p1 teachers you are damping now have waited patiently for 10 years earning 6k in private schools.yet they also have their children to take to school
How can this person go back to school.kindly TSC be fair.employ them , let them get salary then force them to go back to school.be human
I did a P1 and a diploma in early childhood education but this diploma is not considered meaningful as compared to upgrade diploma…..I will quit the proffession not by my wish
Employ these teachers who have grappled with diverse challenges on the field especially who sat for PTE in 2016 and below; even those who upgraded to diploma are being awarded only 5marks which is immensely low and futile
Employ the p1 teachers first.imagine their parents struggled a lot for them to get the p1 certificate.. be human enough to these teachers please. Treat them the way you would like your own children to be treated. Rethink .
We are living as slaves in our own country. You find some p1s finished their trainings and after their certificates they were employed. The present government is worse for how can a university graduate go for mjengo ati jobs created by building affordable housing
You are making life hard for the certificate holders, many have been tarmacking for long waiting for employment yet you want to dump them ,to raise the fee was an issue to them, others even have arrears UpTo todate and here you talk of not considering them …be human …think all you are not God.
I wonder whether a policy should affect one that has already been trained or on training
