A case has been launched demand for the Kenya National examination council KNEC to be blocked from holding national exams until KCPE and Kcse results for 2023 are subjected to serious scrutiny.
Elimu Bora Working Group (EBWG) and Kenya Human Rights Commission (KHRC) are the petitioners for the above case against KNEC.
The two bodies have demanded that the council get stopped from testing learners at both levels until the results of the 2023 Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) and Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) were fully audited.
The claim was presented in a notification that was made public on Wednesday, February 14, 2024.
Additionally , these two bodies two have requested that KNEC and Education Cabinet Secretary , honourable Ezekiel Machogu to do an audit and make the results available to the general public as well.
The organizations have indicated the KNEC’s handling of the KCPE examinations 2023 results shows a shadow of doubt, something that has since created lack of trust amongst the general public .
The two now say that KNEC council had failed the public due to the inconsistencies noted, more so those experienced during the results of the 2023 national Examinations.
KNEC was also put on blame for its ignorance in not responding to the group’s request for the rules and procedures that are expected to governing exam marking in the system.
Questions has alo been asked on the KNEC’s new grading procedure that is currently unknown.
As per to to the petitioners on this matter, reports suggest that KNEC gives markers predefined goals, which pressures them to evaluate a large number of papers what has been termed as a practice that could lower the caliber of results.
According to the document presented before the court by the petitioner, there is also demand on audit which should touch these areas;
- examination marking
- marks distribution
- Examination moderation
- results compilation
- results review.
