The president of the republic of Kenya, William Samoei Ruto has now ordered for all schools and universities to pay fees via eCitizen.
This comes following president’s cabinet has approval of the digitisation of the entire education system in the country, which is a move aimed at streamlining services.
During a Cabinet meeting on Wednesday, it was observed that the process of digitisation programme is expected to eliminate various issues challenging the education sector which include running of parallel school accounts and overcharging of fees on parents.
On the other hand, President Ruto’s Cabinet has explained that digitisation agenda would eliminate enrollment of ghost students in schools.
The president approved this move saying that keeping with the Administration’s digital transformation agenda,in the entire education system shows spanning from basic education to tertiary and university levels.
Following the above approval, Ezekiel Machogu , the education cabinet secretary is expected to release guidelines on how the digitisation plan will be implemented.
When the program was earlier launched , it was only national schools were targeted by the eCitizen plan.
The minimum had directed in a notice released by education Principal Secretary Belio Kipsang that parents would start making payments through the eCitizen platform.
In a case ongoing court case,the high Court Justice Chacha Mwita issued an extension of orders halting the plan until April 17th, 2024 when it will be heard and determined.

The directive from the ministry also many parents lament over the digitisation plan saying they given that some of them often substitute fees with delivery of items such as maize , firewood among others will be disadvantaged.
Equally the teachers also questioned how schools would get access to the money given the process,since it will be enforced by E-citizen plan.
Kenyans are now waiting to see the response from the universities to pay fees via eCitizen.
