All the Primary and junior schools JSS will start their first term athletics games competition immediately two weeks after resuming from the term 1 half term break.
According to the ministry school calender 2024, all the Primary,the junior and secondary schools will break for mid term on 28th February and resume on 3rd March 2024 for the better part of term one .
This year, unlike last year where junior school learners were mixed with those in primary schools, the Grade 7 and 8 learners will have their own competition which will be separate from the primary school section.
All first athletic events will involve sprints, the middle plus the long distance races,the relays, jumps and throws as well
In this case , the primary and junior school learners will start from grassroot level before proceeding to zonal level, then sub-county, the county, then regional and finally to national level.
All the School games teachers have so far attended to their zonal clinics where they got training and sensitized on the upcoming school competitions starting soon.
With this level, all the County, the Regional and National clinics will start from End March to Early April.
Note also that National Clinics will be done in Nyeri from 8th to 11th April 2024.
Highlighted below are the athletic activities that will be conducted in the first term competitions for primary and junior school learners.
1.The Sprints (commonly known as short races):
They include;
- The 100m race
- The 100m hurdles girls
- The 110m hurdles boys
- The 200m
- The 400m
- The 400m hurdles
3. The Middle distance races;
They include
- The 800m race
- The 1500m race
- The 3000m race
3. The Long distance races:
This includes;
- The 5000m race
The 5000m walk
4.Relays:
- The 4 x100m race
- The 4 x 400m race
- The 4 x 400m mixed race
5. The Jumps:
- The High Jump
- The Long Jump
- The Triple Jump
- The Pole vault
6.The Throws :
This includes ;
- The Javelin
- The Short putt
- Discus
- The Hammer
Important Note:
Not Unless indicated, note that all races apply to both boys and girls.

There will be ;
One participant per school for short races.
Two participants per school for middle distance and field events (throws and jumps)
Three participants per school for Long distance events.
List of Documentation:
Every learner Primary or JSS learner attending athletics games must;
- Have a Birth certificate (no age limit)
- Have an introduction letter
- Have a Photo of participant with the head of institution
