Ministry Issues Fresh Circular Guiding JSS Co-curricular Activities

Ministry of Education has released  a fresh co-curricular circular on calendar of events for 2024 where Junior Secondary School JSS will conduct  their activities alone.

Currently , the junior school is hosted  in the primary schools sections and the primary schools headteachers are tentatively in charge of  funds to facilitate the  implementation and coordination of  the activities in these schools.

The ministry has issued a circular guiding how Junior Schools will participate in the following activities in 2024 calendar.

For Term I:

These are the activities;

Athletics games which include;Cross country, Handball games , Swimming games and Basketball 5×5.

For Term II:

There will be Soccer games, Volleyball, Basketball 3×3 games  and Netball.

At the moment , Kenya Primary School Sports Association Committees have been  appointed to ensure proper management of the transition process and together with the Field Education offices at each level .

The field officers will provide coordination and support including provision of technical officials,the  referees and the umpires.

According  to the ministry , the new circular is to bring to attention , the regulations applicable for 2024 Junior School Co-Curricular co-ordination and management as listed here;

1. That all the Subcounty Directors of Education to nominate some caretaker committee members from the current elected and serving sub county Kenya primary schools sports association committee.

The above officials will manage the activities as the SCDE will loversight and coordination at the Sub-County level.

2. That all the County Director of Education are required  to nominate some caretaker committee members from the current elected and serving County Kenya Primary Schools Sports Association Committee.

These officials will manage the Activities as the COE does oversight and coordination at the County level.

3. That all Regional  Director of Education  to do nomination of  some  caretaker committee members from the current elected and serving regional Kenya  Primary Schools Sports Association Committee.

These officers  will ensure management of the activities as the RDE are mandated to do oversight and coordination at the regional  level.

4. The circular on JSS Co-curricular also indicate that all the Director Field  Coordination and Co-Curricular Activities to coordinate the activities in collaboration with the Kenya Primary Schools sports association at the National level.

In the circular, all the SCDEs, the CDEs and RDEs are advised do select from the serving officials separate for each activity since primary and junior activity will  run concurrently in two different venues.This includes Nyeri and Machakos counties.

The circular further indicates that all Nationals  for junior School term I games are scheduled for April in Machakos County in Eastern Region as per the calendar of events released on 23rd November 2023.
