Government through Private Security Regulatory Authority (PSRA) has announced start of mandatory vetting of in-house security officers in all Schools or (institutions of higher learning).
The announcement was released on 13th February , 2023.
As per to the private regulatory authority, nationwide vetting activity will check on public and private universities, the colleges, various polytechnics plus the vocational training centres.
The body has announced that after the vetting, all the guards will be subjected to a mandatory training in which, the successful candidates will be licensed to continue working as in-house security officers.
Details indicate that the heads and security officers in charge of various institutions of learning have so far reported and approved the vetting and training programs.
Vetting exercise was agreed upon following a meeting with PSRA officials in which different ways to ensure institutions of higher learning were safe and secure were discussed.
According to PSRA, the government has started the mandatory nationwide security vetting exercise, the training and licensing of all in-house security officers who were employed in institutions/ schools of higher learning
Equally, it noted that the new vetting,the training and subsequent licencing would be extended to contracted private security officers and all officers offering security services.
It further added that these officers will be employed by the said institutions or otherwise engaged as private security service providers.
Just before the start of the training process, this Authority organised for a sensitisation forum at the Kenya School of Government slated for February 22,2024.
During this meeting, all the programs will be facilitated fully by the National Government through the Ministry of Interior and is open free of charge to all security officers who will attend.
The PSRA organization is looking forward to streamlining the private security sector including employee welfare getting improvement.
The PSRA has given a proposal that the security officers or guards must earn a minimum of Ksh. 30,000 per month.
