Teacher Training Colleges (TTCs) offer teaching training for the primary P1 teachers as one of the most rewarding career choices for those who meet requirements

The training prepares one to join a career that is demanding as it require one to get an opportunity to make a genuine difference.

Under TTCs , one has a chance to pursue several courses to fulfill the dream of being a teacher.

For those wishing to become primary and secondary school teachers ,there is hope since the qualifications for joining Teacher Training Colleges (TTCs) have been lowered.
It is important  to note that with the  revised guidelines,the students who scored D+ can join TTCs.

Based in the new rules, all students seeking to study for a diploma in education will need a C plain or C- in the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) that has now been lowered down from the previous C+.

On the other hand, students seeking a certificate course in education (commonly  known as P1), now need a D+, lowered from  the previous C plan.

Those Diploma Teachers Training Colleges are projected towards training professional teachers for secondary education.

The intakes into TTCS takes place yearly and placements of KCSE students are done by the Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service (KUCCPS).

Take note too that it is not all students get placed by KUCCPS. Incase one misses a chance to apply via KUCCPS,do not get worried as there is a second chance

For those who miss kuccps placement,  they are allowed  to scan and send their KCSE Results Slip or Certificate to the preferred TTC.

Upon results slip  verification ,one gets  instructed on how to get your admission letter

Minimum Entry Requirements For The Diploma In Primary Teachers Education (DPTE)

  1. For those interested in Diploma in Primary Teacher Education (Grade 1-6) thev entry grade is KCSE Mean Grade of C (Plain) or have its  equivalent with a C (Plain) in the following cluster subjects including (English and Kiswahili, Mathematics; Humanities ( C in Any); Sciences ( have Any).)
  2. For individuals with disabilities, their minimum entry grade is  KCSE C- (Minus) and C- (Minus) in the cluster of subjects stated above.

Studying this course shall take a period of three (3) years in accordance with the approved Curriculum designs.

It is a requirement that all the trainees cover the recommended hours for coursework as well as the  required hours for practicum and pass the assessments as directed by Kenya National Examination Council (KNEC).

In addition, they shall undertake three months micro-teaching course that is  is a pre-requisite for teaching practice

Minimum Entry Requirements For The Diploma In Early Childhood Teacher Education (DECTE)

  • The minimum entry requirements for the Diploma in Early Childhood Teacher Education (DECTE) is C (Plain) Mean Grade in the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education Examination (KCSE)

or

  • Have its equivalent as presented in the  equated by the Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC.
  • For the candidates with disabilities, they  shall be admitted with C- grade in KCSE or have an equivalent.
