The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) has warned teachers on being at risk losing their service numbers should they be found hosting students and pupils in their homes or hotel rooms.
This is according to the new TSC amendment a bill for 2024.
As per to this new bill,that is now open for public participation,the commission has listed over 25 disciplinary incidents that may lead to deregistration or interdiction of registered teachers.
The TSC bill has listed the offences ranging from more serious cases of sexual solicitation, sodomy cases , giving falsifying documents as well as teachers hosting students at home.
For those who will be found engaging learners to undertake household chores at teachers’ residences , the bill has classified this as major offence.
The other offences included professional misconduct which include negligence of duty, teachers chronic lateness to duty as well as chronic absenteeism .
Other misconducts listed include drunkenness,teachers fighting and use of vulgar language in school.
TSC also indicated that those found submitting forged documents to the Commission to influence decision-such an act is makes the processes and falsifying as well as altering official documents or data also amount to disciplinary offences.
Other listed offences include teachers being found guilty of the offences will be issued warning letters, they may also face surcharge, or get suspended for six months and also may have their names removed from the register.
TSC has listed other forms of punishment included forced retirement,teacher dismissal as well as termination of membership.
Even with this , still the teachers will have a chance to appeal before the tribunal before their names are struck off.
The latest incident saw the teachers service commission deregister a series of disciplinary cases after they were found guilty of several offences.
TSC took a step to list their TSC number, their case number plus the name of the teacher and date of removal in the Gazette notice announcing the decision.
