The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) has announced that all teachers in Kenya including those in primary and secondary levels are required to undertake continuous professional development programmes to get certificate.
The commission has further revealed that all registered teachers under the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) are expected to have a practicing certificate.
In reference to the Teachers Service Commission TSC (Amendment) Bill of 2024 , it seeks to amend the Teachers Service Commission Act, of 2012.
The bill suggests that teachers should have two certifications which are as. Per to Commission’s goal to take all necessary steps to ensure that persons in the teaching service comply with the teaching standards.
TSC announced that any teacher who fails to undertake prescribed continuous professional development programmes or those whose without a practising certificate is prohibited from teaching
The teachers employer has already announced that it will burgain on behalf of the teachers with serious stakeholders to issue them with those certificates.
The commission is so far in the final stages of entering into agreements with academic institutions, the bodies, various departments as well as a government agency towards offering the certificates.
Inorder to ensure optimal teaching standards,all the teachers who will be undertaking continuous assessments and practising certificates will be graded using an agreed-upon appraisal system.
In addition, the commission will establish and implement a capacity building for all registered teachers too.
The teachers professional development program certificate is meant to provide the necessary knowledge,key skills and resources to enhance teacher’s performance,their productivity and professional growth.
The announcement comes at a time when the Kenyan teachers are battling with the high cost of living leaving many worried non who will cater for the cost of the same exercise.
