The Teachers Service Commission TSC has announced that it had registered more than 49,000 new teachers in the 2022/23 academic year.
As per to the TSC 2022/2023 annual report, there are a total of 49,185 new teachers were registered in this period.
Out of the above number, there 23,230 teachers who are degree holders as another 2,371 are holders of diploma.
I’m addition, there are 13,084 registered teachers under Early Childhood Development Education (ECDE) certificate holders.
All newly trained and qualified teachers are required by the the commission to be registered before they can teach in any public or private institution as per to TSC Act 2012 Article 237.
Any teachers who qualify upon meeting the requirements for registration is usually issued with the certificate of Registration .
The certificate normally bears a TSC number and is released within 30 days.
Even with the surging number of teachers, there is still a challenge with teachers employment in the country.
In the recently teacher replacement,TSC recruited 15,000 teachers on permanent and pensionable terms .
An additional of there is an additional 26,000 intern teachers which is the highest number ever recruited and engaged teachers on contract.
TSC new teacher recruitment was aimed at achieving 100 per cent transition from primary to secondary which is part of implementation of the CBC Curriculum and addressing the existing teacher shortage.
On teacher promotions , TSC provided opportunities for career growth and effected promotion for 11,231 teachers through competitive selection .
Also the commission effected a total of 11,069 through common cadre establishments.
The above number was an increment from 13,196 teachers transferred in the previous year.
TSC further report that for purposes of enhancing employee wellbeing and mitigate the risks associated with wellness, it had built the capacity of 21, 922 employees on mental health issues .
As another important step, now the teachers’ files are accessible digitally via the EDMS system (online).
