The government through the Ministry of Education has clarified reports claiming that a new placement exam for grade 8 junior currently in primary schools is in the pipeline.
The ministry, through its official channels, dismissed these claims that it had been directed to develop the Kenya Primary Placement Examination,that is expected to unveil a new criterion for placing learners.
The reports that have been regarded as false , according to the ministry, claim that the new examination was to be rolled out by November this year.
Responding to the fake update, the Ministry maintained that as of now nothing has changed and the status quo would remain as it is.
In addition , the fake update claimed that the State working towards shifting Grade 9 currently under the competency-based curriculum to secondary school in 2025 after doing new placement exam for grade 8 learners.
It further claimed to that the change was expected to affect Junior Secondary School teachers who are anchored in primary schools by moving them to high schools to inorder to handle grades 9, 10, 11, and 12 respectively.
The fake update also indicated of a planned survey that is to be considered in content areas for secondary school and colleges category as matter of urgency so as to avoid further curriculum distortion
The latest fake report which has caused panic among many comes at a time when the government is in the final stages of solving the transition Junior Secondary Schools.
2024 learners transitioning to junior secondary comes after the release of the 2023 Kenya Primary School Education Assessment (KPSEA) results through the Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC).
The council uploaded all the KPSEA results online so as to be easily accessed by school principals and parents.
During the release of the results, the examination council advised all head teachers and principals to ensure that students in their institutions have been registered for this 2024 KPSEA assessment whose deadline is March 29, 2024 .
