The Chief Principals in Kenya are appointed and positioned at Grade D5 (T-Scale 15) earn the highest basic salary per month as they serve as heads of  educational institutions.

Under the 2021-2025 CBA signed last year, it comes with significant changes in relation to the compensation structure for these school heads.

Important Notes

  • The Monthly Basic Salary structure for Chief Principals under Grade D5 starts at 131,380  Shillings.

 

Note also that as teachers progress in their roles, their monthly salary increases in steps and in every level, there is a reflection of a higher level of responsibility and experience.

A part from the basic salary, teachers alo get the following allowances ;

TSC monthly Hardship Allowance

It is paid to teachers working in areas characterized by adverse conditions such for instance extreme weather, access to amenities and security concerns.

Chief Principal stationed in such an area receives a hardship allowance of ksh.38,100 as a way of acknowledging their additional challenges they face in their roles.

Monthly Commuter Allowance

The allowance  is meant to ease the financial burden of daily travel to and from work for teachers.

It is meant to compensate costs associated with commuting eg , public transportation fees as well as wear and tear on personal vehicles.

Chief Principal receives monthly commuter allowance of 16,000 Kenyan Shillings.

Annual Leave Allowance ( ones in every year)

Teachers get an  Annual Leave Allowance which rewarded for their dedication.

Principals at Grade D5  receive an annual leave allowance of 10,000 Kenyan Shillings.

The allowances encourages teachers to take the well-deserved breaks and refresh so as to return to their students with renewed energy and enthusiasm.

Monthly Disability Guide Allowance

It is paid to Special Needs Education (SNE)  teachers as a  testament to the significance of their work.

Teachers under Grade D5 teachers involved in SNE receive a monthly allowance of 20,000 Kenyan Shillings.
