Anticipated Changes in University Cut-off Points For 2023 Students

University Cut-off Points for 2023 students is anticipated to be slightly lowered giving hope for students to get into different universities for higher learning.

During  the release of KCSE results, Machogu said that there is a plan by the government on examination and  administration improvements which are meant to offer more flexible for those joining higher institutions.

The CS also signaled university and  colleges Cut-off  and cluster points reviews which is expected to expand access to courses and careers for 2023 students.

The released 2023 KCSE exam saw an adoption of the new marking and grading system that decreased the number of required subjects from five to two.

Important  subjects considered during this include mathematics and any language (English, Kiswahili, or Kenya Sign language.

The review  above is also expected to effect new adjustments in the entrance cut-off points as well.

The new directive on grading will see five subjects with the best performance are now rated alongside these subjects.

Suggested changes are in line with the proposals made by Raphael Munavu who is the chair of the Presidential Working Party for Education Reform (PWPER).

Munavu’s report supports a more straightforward grading system inorder  to enable more students to pass tertiary-level courses.

The strategy is also meant to prevent candidates from being at a disadvantage.

During the examination release, Machogu directed the Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service (KUCCPS) instructions on how to ensure matching of course qualification standards with the new grading scheme.

Machogu added that focus should be purely on the literacy (Kiswahili or English) and numeracy (math) abilities that are required for employment in TVET, colleges, and universities.

Knec results for 2023 KCSE examinations, saw 201,133 students received a grade of C (plus) or above which is the current university cut-off level.

The government through kuccps  guarantee that all the 2023 KCSE applicants are aware of the new TVET and university entrance requirements under the Higher Education Funding Model.
