KUPPET Members Push for ‘One Man ones Job’ Leadership reforms

Some section of members of the Kenya Union of Post Primary Education Teachers ( Kuppet ) have proposed for reforms in the leadership for the union.

Incase this new push would yield fruits, it is likely to see the exit of several high-ranking officials among them chairman Omboko Milemba.

KUPPET chairman Mr. Milemba, is also the member of Parliament for Emuhaya constituency.

Another official is the Bungoma Woman Rep Catherine Wambilyanga, who doubles up as Kuppet Secretary for Gender and Women.

The above leaders are among top union officials who could be forced to exit should the move to bar officials from holding two jobs change.

There are other several officials at the branch level who are currently   doubling up as Ward Reps,others as  Executive Committee Members and others as Chief Officers who may be pushed out.

The age of retirement is another clause that is likely to take effect and this is likely to sweep Kuppet Secretary General Akello Misori and National Treasurer Mwethi Njenga are among those who have attained the mandatory retirement age of 60 years in public service to be pushed out.

Their stay in office is scheduled  to expire in December 2026.

In his response to this new changes,  Milemba said that changing the constitution has been discussed by the union, however not entirely agreed upon. Saying that so far he can not comment on anything on it.

In last year  during the National Delegates Conference (NDC) convened on December 15 and 16th 2023 at the Kasarani Sports Complex in Nairobi , the discussion and adoption of the changes on the constitution ended in disarray following sharp differences among officials and members.

There is another Special National Delegates Conference which is now scheduled for this year where all members are expected to either ratify or reject the proposals through a secret ballot.

KUPPET leadership reforms tabled during  the to Kasarani meeting by the National Constitutional Review Committee that had been tasked to look into the constitution and come up with proposals on areas that required review.
