The fees structure paid by the government is KSh15,000 per learner as capitation which is meant to facilitate free learning for Junior Secondary in public schools.
Directive from the government is that that Junior Secondary learners will have a distinct school uniform inorder to distinguish them from the rest of the learners who are in the lower tier in shared primary schools.
Latest caution from the Education Cabinet Secretary (CS) Ezekiel Machogu bars heads of schools from charging any levy to students in Junior Secondary.
The CS says that any reported cases will be met with harsh disciplinary measures.
Machogu reported that President William Ruto directed that the National Treasury set aside Sh15,000 per learner which is the capitation to facilitate free learning in all public schools.
The government will spend Sh9.6 Billion for the learners in Junior 6 Secondary Schools this calendar year under the new calender year.
The government has also promised to supply a book for every learner in every subject starting January 30.
There has been serious queries of anxiety and questions from parents on the cost of running the new transition.
As a result, the government clarified that learners in public junior secondary schools schools will not pay school fees, except for a new fees structure for schools with boarding wings.
On this, the ministry said that parents and the board of management in respective schools will have to agree on the new uniforms that they will purchase for their learners
