Investigation has now kicked off by the government into reports of principals who are currently charging parents fees for learners’ admission to Junior Secondary Schools ( JSS ).
According to the Education Cabinet Secretary Ezekiel Machogu, the ministry has formed a team tasked with monitoring the behavior of principals at Junior Secondary JSS schools across the country collecting any admission fees.
Machogu announced that a team comprising ten units are expected to visit around 28,000 to check for compliance with the directive that all grade six learners transition to Junior Secondary schools without any admission fees.
Machogu insisted that primary heads should facilitate the smooth transition and allow learners whose parents are unable to afford new uniform to be using their existing ones until they can purchase new ones.
Machogu also said that his team will move around schools to investigate whether there is any teachers that are frustrating the transition by charging parents or making other demands,
The CS announced this during the launch of Gilgil Technical and Vocational College in Nakuru.
He insisted that his government has disbursed sufficient funds (Sh 7.6 billion) to cater for Junior Secondary School learners, saying that no parent should be charged for form one admission.
In his warning , machogu said a teacher found demanding money from parents would face dismissal.
According to machogu, the ministry will conduct the two-week operation of the monitoring team to ensure strict adherence to the government’s directives.
Machogu revealed that Sh 1.7 billion had been allocated for Technical Vocational Education and Training,adding that an extra of Sh 26 billion designated for universities.

On the other hand, those colleges offering various courses,have already received at least Sh 50 million from the Constituency Development Fund and currently has 91 pupils.
On the same note, the Gilgil Member of Parliament honourable Martha Wanjiru, urged parents to enroll their children in the college to acquire relevant skills.
