The teachers service commission TSC has issued it’s five year strategic plan in an effort to support President William Ruto’s Bottom-Up Economic Agenda (BETA) ending also in 2027.
According to TSC, the plan aims to address the teacher shortage in educational institutions by ensuring employment and evenly dispersement of instructors to public schools.
The teachers service through TSC’s CEO, Nancy Macharia has emphasized on the value of the teaching service in delivering the knowledge and abilities needed which are to complete the BETA project’s goals and objectives.
As per to the agenda , the commission plans to hire a total of 211,870 teachers over the next five years .This will help to meet the growing demands of the education sector.
While attending a function at the Kenya School of Government in Lower Kabete, Nairobi, TSC CEO Dr.Nancy Macharia said that the need for an additional budget of Sh134.5 billion while making a presentation of the TSC Strategic Plan 2023 to 2027.
Macharia further mentioned that this strategic plan will serve as the cornerstone for scheduling and allocating resources, proper support of both the educational goal supported by BETA as well as ensuring that there is effective performance of the commission’s mandate.
Through this plan, the government intends to create a one-year paid national internship program for teacher graduates of universities,those from technical colleges, and colleges of education and medicine in accordance with President Ruto’s Agenda.

However, TSC will improve the teacher internship program and assess the internship policy in order to accomplish this aim,plans that will both contribute to the Agenda’s ultimate realization.
The TSC boss equally indicated plans to establish an Institute for teacher support and professional development,that is likely to enable the commission to identify issues, potential risks as well as offer workable solutions.
The commission will also develop and put into place an affirmative action framework in teacher management.
This is also meant to adhere to the UNESCO teacher deployment practice and ensure equitable recruiting and deployment practices at the entry level.
