National and County schools To Get  scrapped from next year

The current scramble for national schools by parents may soon  be a thing of the past following the recommendations by the education reforms task force report wanting them to be scrapped.

According  to the education reforms team, the current categorisation of schools  should be scrapped and a new method which focuses on pathways be  adopted.

According  to the draft report which  contains  recommendations of the Presidential Working Party on Education Reforms (PWPER) , the ministry should  discontinue the classification of schools in the country.

Once these  recommendations will be implemented ,the national schools, the Extra-County schools, County schools and Sub-County schools as well will be scrapped.

The committee  proposes  that schools be to be grouped based on career pathways of science,the technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM), Social Science and Arts and Sports respectively.

The Ministry of Education  is expected in the  next six months to undertake audit to establish the number and distribution of public secondary schools across the country.

It will also be required within six months,to ensure proper  generation of a a criteria for classifying schools in terms of career pathways ensuring all regions have all the options.

It is also clear that there will be no region in the country will be disadvantaged in terms of availability of schools offering the three pathways.

The committee also provides that within one year, education  ministry will be required to enhance guidelines on the establishment of low cost boarding primary schools.

It further proposes that the government promotes establishment of low-cost boarding primary schools in marginalised areas .

This is meant to  improve infrastructure in Sub County schools that offer the three pathways as well to ensure education is delivered successful.
