Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) has finally made the disbursement of payments to trained teachers who served as examination invigilators, supervisors plus center managers during the 2023 national examinations and assessments period.
The examination council started the disbursement of payments for exam invigilators, supervisors, and center managers on Wednesday, January 17th, 2024.
Payment for teachers, more so those overseeing the grade 6 Kenya Primary Education Assessment KPSEA exams have received their compensation for the exercise that took three days.
In every year, the KNEC council contracts professionals to assist in the administration of national exams which include teachers, security personnel plus drivers.
Contracted teachers play crucial roles as exam supervisors, invigilators, center managers, and finally others are hired to do exam marking.
According to data, 2023 examination year saw a total of 234,473 teachers involved in administering the national exams, covering supervisory, invigilation as well as marking of examination.
There were also a total of 1,415,315 candidates registered for the 2023 KCSE exams as another batch of 1,282,574 candidates took the Kenya Primary School Education Assessment (KPSEA).
In addition, 903,260 candidates also sat for the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) exams in secondary school.
The candidates who received their KCPE have already started reportimg to respective secondary schools based on their qualifications.
The examination results for Kcse has also been released to the public.
KNEC also released results for provided KPSEA candidates however there is no clarity on the results for the millions of these candidates.
KNEC seems to have improved over years in that it recently facilitated early payments to examiners who successfully completed marking the KCPE English Sign Language Composition and Kiswahili Insha unlike delays experienced by teachers in 2022.
Previously , the teachers involved in national examinations had to wait almost a year for the exam agency to fulfill payment obligations due to insufficient funds from the treasury, something that caused rivalry between teachers and KNEC.
But Deputy centre managers were not paid and KPSEA results have issues as some learner’s results are not available on the KNEC website.
